编者按：主题为“寒假”的澎湃第五届寒暑假征稿活动正式启动至今，我们收到了不少小画家、小作家们的作品。孩子们用文字、图像、视频，展示了他们眼中的寒假生活，接下来作品会陆续刊登。
今天刊登的是来自ValeyVast英语俱乐部的Augie小朋友的投稿。Augie向我们介绍说，中国传统上说过年，是因为古时候传说中有一个叫“年”的怪兽，人们用爆炸声、火光和红色的物件来吓退怪兽。而今年，过年期间的“怪兽”变成了新冠病毒。让我们起来读一读他的作文吧。
作品：《ASpecialNewYear》
作者：朱子昂（Augie）9岁海桐小学三年级8班
AlongtimeagoinChina,therewasamonstercalledNian.Itwasagiantandlookedlikeafiercewildanimal.OnNewYearEve,Niancametoavillageandatepeople.PeoplewerescaredofNianuntilawisemantaughtthevillagersthatNianwasafraidofthreethings:loudnoise,fireandredcolor.Thenextyear,whenNiancamebackpeoplehitdrumsloudly,setofffirecrackersandworeredclothesfromheadtotoe.Nianwasfrightenedsoitranfarawayandnevercamebackagain.
ThisisanancienttaleinChineseculture.However,thisyearwehadarealmonster.Itwassosmallthatwecouldnotsee.WecalleditCoronavirus.Thismonstercouldgetintoourbodies,makinguscough,causingafeverandmightleadweakpeopletoseriousdiseasesordie.Thus,manydoctorsandscientistscannotsleeporcelebrateChineseNewYear,butworkdaysandnightstofightdiseasesandcurepatients,findingwaystocontrolthisvirusoutbreak.Itwassaidthatthismonsterappearedbecausesomepeopleatewildanimalsthatshouldbeavoided.
Originally,duringChineseNewYearwecouldsetofffirecrackers,playwithfriendsandeatNewYearEvedinneroutsidewithourfamilies,butthismonsterissostrongthatwehavetostayathometoprotectourselves.WhenwegooutwemustwearamasklikeaNinja,whenwegobackwemustwashourhandsthoroughly.
AlthoughthisChineseNewYearwearesufferingbecauseofthismonster,wearestillhappywithourfamilies.Wealsobelievewewillbeatthismonsterandtheworldwillbebacktonormal.
